Widget + Contest = Movie Promotion

The new movie Cloverfield (buildings falling in NYC, people running… am I the only one who is a bit bothered by this?) does a pretty cool promotion.

First they release an extended, 5 minute sneak peek video. As part of that video, cult icon J.J. Abrams lays out the contest – the person with the most traffic from the use of the widget you’re watching will get an early screening in their town. Pretty smart.
